Dear Neighbors and Families of Robert Semple Elementary School,
We are proud to be embarking upon the construction of solar panel installation at Robert Semple Elementary School, as well as Benicia High School, Matthew Turner Elementary School and Joe Henderson Elementary School! These solar panels will serve as much needed shade for the students, require us to use far less energy, and save our district a great deal of money!
The solar panels will be placed on the blacktop, parallel to East 2nd Street stretching from our kickball court to the corner of our barkbox. There will be some impact to the students during construction. To accommodate for the temporary lost play area, we will be opening the field on an as needed basis.
I have met with the construction and district teams to discuss logistics and, but especially student and adult safety. Trucks and equipment will be entering and leaving the school on a fairly consistent basis. We will ensure that all activity is done with the utmost care in regards to your children. As you begin to see the construction, it will be greatly appreciated if you make extra effort to be more careful during these times of change, especially during drop off and pick up times.
Construction will begin on a smaller scale in beg/mid-October with a projected completion in early 2018. Please understand that construction is a moving target and if changes occur the above dates may move. We will send out additional communications as needed.
As a District, we are particularly pleased with the solar project as it will provide energy savings, benefit our environment through green energy, and serve as a great teaching tool to share with our students. The project is made possible through State Energy Funding.
We, along with Benicia Unified School District, apologize for any potential inconveniences of construction. We will do all we can to minimize impact to the students, families, and neighbors of Robert Semple. Please contact our site with any questions.
